WAGO 221: which terminal for how many wires and what current
Споделяне
WAGO 221 is the most widely used series of lever connectors for quick and secure tool-free wire connections. At first glance, the models look almost identical, but they differ in the number of wire entry ports. Here's a brief guide on which model is used for what.
What all models in the 221 series have in common
Regardless of the number of entry ports, all 221 series connectors we offer support wire cross-sections from 0.14 to 4 mm² and a maximum current of up to 32A. This makes them suitable for most domestic and light commercial installations — lighting, outlets, branches for lighter loads.
WAGO 221-412 — connector for 2 wires
The simplest and most commonly used option. Suitable for direct extension or connecting two wires — for example, extending a cable or connecting the end of a chain.
WAGO 221-413 — connector for 3 wires
Convenient for branching when two directions need to originate from one point — for example, connecting a power cable with two branches to different loads or switches.
WAGO 221-415 — connector for 5 wires
Suitable for more complex branching in a panel or junction box, where several loads need to be powered simultaneously from one point — for example, lighting fixtures on a single switch.
WAGO 221-2411 — lever connector for 2 wires
A version with a slightly different cross-section range (0.2–4 mm²), but a similar maximum current of 32A. Functionally, it covers the same task as the 221-412 — connecting two wires.
Additional accessory: holder for 221-500 connectors
The DIN rail holder is not the connector itself, but a mounting accessory. It allows 221 series connectors to be securely fixed to a DIN rail in a panel, instead of hanging freely in a junction box — useful for a larger number of connections in one panel.
How to choose the right model
Count how many wires need to meet at one point — this directly determines the number of entry ports you need (2, 3, or 5). The cross-section of each wire must be between 0.14 and 4 mm², and the total current through the connector must not exceed 32A. If you are making many connections in one panel, also consider the DIN rail holder for a neater installation.
