What is a WiFi circuit breaker and how does it connect to Tuya/Smart Life

In modern electrical installations, not only protection but also remote control is increasingly sought after. The WiFi automatic circuit breaker (also known as a WiFi Smart Switch or WiFi Din Rail Switch) is a device that combines the functions of a classic automatic circuit breaker with the ability for remote control and monitoring via a mobile application.
What is a WiFi automatic circuit breaker?
It is a protective device mounted on a DIN rail in the electrical panel, which, in addition to standard protective functions, adds WiFi connectivity. Through the Tuya Smart or Smart Life application, the user can switch the current circuit on and off from their phone, regardless of their location, and monitor energy consumption in real time.
Main Protective Functions
- Overvoltage protection
- Undervoltage protection
- Overcurrent protection
- Overload protection
- Delay protection (for switching on/off)
These protections automatically switch off the circuit when deviations from the set thresholds occur, protecting both consumers and the installation.
Smart functions via Tuya / Smart Life
- Remote switching on and off of the circuit from the application
- Real-time monitoring of voltage, current, and consumed power
- Consumption history by hour, day, month, and year
- Setting alarm thresholds (e.g., for overvoltage)
- Sharing device access with other Smart Life users
Technical Parameters
- Protocol: WiFi (Tuya)
- Operating voltage: 90–300V
- Rated current / protection setting range: 1–63A (specific values depend on the model)
- Control: remote or manual
- Number of relays: single or double relay, depending on the model
How to set up (step by step)
Step 1 — Wiring connections
The upper terminals of the device are input (connected to the power supply from the panel), and the lower terminals are output (connected to the load/consumer). The phase wire is connected to L, and the neutral wire to N, observing this sequence for input and output. It is important that the connection is performed by a qualified electrician.
Step 2 — Download the application
Download Tuya Smart or Smart Life from Google Play or the App Store and create a profile.
Step 3 — Enter pairing mode
After powering on, press and hold the power button for about 5–10 seconds until the LED indicator starts flashing slowly in blue — the device is in search mode.
Step 4 — Add device
In the application, press "+" in the upper right corner, select "Add Device", after which the application will automatically detect nearby devices.
Step 5 — Connect to the WiFi network
Enter the password for your home WiFi network. Wait until the connection is successfully established — the LED indicator will light up solid blue.
Step 6 — Test
After successful connection, check the switching on and off from the application, as well as the energy monitoring display.
What is it used for?
WiFi automatic circuit breakers are used where both protection and remote control are required — panels in homes, garages, villas, warehouses, small commercial premises, irrigation systems, water heaters, and other appliances with higher loads.
